Counter Intuitive Plugin

Due to data mining today, most of what our facebook feed shows us is the things we like to see. If I am a craft enthusiast I keep getting 5 minute craft videos. Which I love seeing but maybe cooking is something I'm going to like even better. Seeing the same things again and again can lead to the formation of a confirmation bias. Our willingness to be open to other views starts reducing.

As a result of this most people search for statements on the internet that could be biased, that give us only a few perspectives. People might not be curious enough to search for different sides of a situation consciously.

People usually comment on other's posts without considering other perspectives, which might result in a less empathetic act or an insensitive response.

This is an intervention as an optional plugin for search engines and social media that intends to subject people to multiple perspectives of a topic or a situation before they form their own views. These are prototypes that do not necessarily focus on the utility of the outcome but they focus on achieving a kind of mindset that sensitizes people to think and consider more perspectives and possibilities and accordingly make more informed decisions or opinions. The goal of this intervention is to introduce a mindset among people to look around for more information before they respond to something.

There are two parts to this counter-intuitive plugin, one being for search engines which, when a biased statements is entered, presents the user with multiple perspectives of the entities involved in that particular situation. The second part is a plugin for social media platforms as discussion platforms. While commenting on someone's post, the user comes across pop-ups that talk about the issue through various lenses, such that the user is aware of all the sides of the issue and makes an informed decision and comments

Here's an example of how it works
