Persona Test

Every participant was given a title, for example: a thief, and the participant had to come up with details of that persona, like his/her musical interests, family details, age, name, etc. This was done with the intention to figure out what are the general biases and stereotypes that people have and how that influences in how one empathizes with someone.

After a brief discussion with Gonga over the weekend we realized that we needed more primary research to validate our formula for empathy. So today we started with the framing different experiments that could be tested with different kinds of audiences. We decided to start with ‘information’, ‘biases’ and ‘inquiry’ that affects empathy. We started brain storming ideas that could be used to test these out. Vaidehie suggested an effective way to know what people’s biases are without leading them on. She said give them a situation and ask them to ask questions about the situation. The kind of questions they ask could tell us about their biases. We also tried to check biases through a ‘Which one would you save?’ game. We gave them two people A and B and kept  giving them information about these people. We wanted to see at which factor the decision changed. We decided to frame another experiment about more information. We wanted to see how people empathize when they are given more perspectives on a situation. We therefore decided to frame a refugee situation. We came across a newspaper article about a Syrian refugee who wanted asylum in Malaysia.  This is what we framed.
